Global New Vehicle Registrations

The Global New Vehicle Registrations dataset, originated from IHS Markit, aggregates and analyzes new vehicle registration information on cars and light commercial vehicles from sources in over 150 countries.

Leverage our registration counts to provide a near-real-time measure of vehicle sales, and therefore automotive market performance. This dataset enables demand and market share monitoring, validation of company targets, tracking the pace of transition to electric vehicles, and macroeconomic analysis.

Data is collected at a monthly granularity, but updated daily. Availability of reported data starts from one day following the end of each calendar month, but reporting lag depends on the source jurisdiction.

The dataset includes vehicle registrations for:

  • 350+ makes/brands
  • 150+ countries
  • Fuel type (BEV, PHEV, HEV, MHEV, Petrol, Diesel, Other)
  • Registration type (Passenger Cars, Light Commercial Vehicles)
  • Body type level (Car, MPV, PUP, Sport, SUV, Van, Others)
  • Optional retail price & vehicle specification details are available
